( t Lewis killed by CN train ByJOHNBATEMAN and BILL WHITELAW Staff Reporters A Belleville man was struck and killed Tuesday by a CN train near the intersec- tion of Sidney and Moira Streets. Lewis McMullin, 64, of 11 Village Dr., Belleville, was struck by an eastbound freight train at approximate- ly 12:30 p.m., said Deputy Chief Begbie of the Belleville police. The body was seen on the tracks by an of f -du ty Belleville OPP officer who was travelling south on Sidney Street and reported it to the Belleville police at 12:44p.m. McMullin was taken to the morgue at Belleville General Hospital. An autopsy was per- formed this morning. It is not known if an inquest will be held. McMullin retired as manager of Belleville Transit Commission in early April after a 31-year transit career. He began when the commis- sion was the Rawson Bus Company, a privately owned business, McMullin spent 10 years with Rawson, many of them as chief mechanic. Shortly after the transit commission came into ex- istence, McMullin was ap- pointed general manager, a position he filled for the following 21 years. McMullin, well known throughout the transit in- dustry - both at a provincial and national level ~ was highly regarded for his LEWIS MCMULLIN knowledge ot smaller transit bodies. He served on a number of committees of both the Canadian and On- tario Urban Transit Commis- sions. "He was respected in the industry and was a driving force behind the Belleville commission since its takeover in 1960," said Vic White, BTC chairman. "His whole life was built around the industry. He was a gentleman ...always thinking of others. He'll be missed by the commission and its employees." McMullin is survived by wife Harriet, sons Carl and Stanley of Water loo , d a u g h t e r s A n n e a n d Katherine of Calgary and Joan of Peterborough.
