page 10, Whitby Froe Pros, saturday, May 31 Whitby man stabbed, hit with hammer A 37-year-old Whitby man was stabbed in the face and neck and hit with a ham- mer in an altercation at an Orlando Court, Oshawa residence last week. Police, fire and ambulance were called to the house around 9 a.m. Thursday and found the Whitby man bleeding at the front door; a 19-year-old Oshawa man of a neighbouring residenco had been stabbed in the abdomen and had head injuries. Both men were taken to Oshawa Gen- eral Hospital for treatment. After further investigation, police ar- rested the Oshawa man, Robert William Coombes, and charged him with at- tempted murder, aggravated assault, as- sault with a weapon and theft under $5,000. Police say the culprit en- tered M&S MiniMart, 261 Michael Blvd., around 7:50 p.m., accosted the clerk and was given an undisclosed amount of cash; he was last seen running through Cen- tral Park. The suspect is described as a white man about 18-to- 20 years old.
