The teachers voted 85.6 percent in favour of a strike and 95.6 percent in favour of rejecting the boards lat- est contract offer, with 362 of 400 teachers eligible vot- ing on both questions. Despite the decisive vote, "we would like to get a settie- ment," says Tony White, president of the Durham secoridary unit of the On- tario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA). "'We certa inly don't want to use the strike mandate... and would hope to strike a deal in the near future."
