Former graduates and the DO'C Folk- sters joined with Robert Carty, of the Youth Corps, Toronto and made the Folk Mass beau t i ful and meaningful for the students. There was full audience par- ticipation for the singing of "0 Happy Day I. In his graduation address, Rev. Thomas McKil lop, Youth Corps Direc- tor, stressed the decision that had to be made between choosing God or one's e g o . "Each grad u ate must real ize, 'I have been loved and I am called upon to love; I am someone for others'", he addressed the graduates. The words of the Communion hymn tied in beautifully with the theme, and struck a deep note with the graduates. "Some people take. Some people give. AIl people have to die; Some never live. " A $20, 000-loss house fire abbre- viated an unusual ly quiet week for the Whitby Fire Dep- artment. The fire, which fol lowed seven con secutive days of no calls to the Department, got underway when grease used for co-oking french fries ingited and exploded at 710 Athol Street on June 23rd. On the follow- ing day, firemen were cal led to the Golden Gate Rest- a u r a n t where an over hea ted kit- chen stove burst into flames caus- ing $3,000damage to the Brock Street restaurant. Firemen w ere called in as a pre- cautionary meas- ure to stand-by duty at the scene of an accident, where vehicles had to be towed clear of spi 1le d gaso- ine. Small grass fir- e s w e r e brought u n d e r control at Garden Street and Rossland Road.
