Summer'171 i snowvof f iciîall1y a mem- ory and 50 is the noise and the tinsel of th e C. N. E. The me monries that 1 have of the C. N. E. th!is year are not forgotten. In fact, lookingback and comparing the '71 C.N.E. to prev ious years, I findlmyself annoyed, dlisappointed and more than a little reluctant to return next year. This year could be called the year of the big "Rip Off"I. What I found this year wvas a mar- ked increase in the number of people peddl ing junk at prices that wvere well1 above the going rate. I found some good d i s p1 asy s t hat were not around 1last year, but sadly the junk outweighed the good displays by about three to one. I can understand that entrance fees alone wil11not cover the costs for such an exhibition, but surely a happy med- i um can be found. Now i t j ust m ight be tha t I have been miîstaken about the title. As I understand it the name is, IlT he Ca n adi an National EXHIBIT- ION."I The emphasis on the last word means to me tha t 1 go to see exhibi ts and I assumed the entrance fee was to pay for these exhibits. The places wvhere I found the worst examples of junk -peddling and little in theway of exhibits wvere the Colliseum and the new Youth Building. In the Colîiseum I spotted two rip- off artists sel 1 ing the exact same radlo that can be bought downtown at a chai n- store for $10 less than these pirates were charging. Weil1 I say, "WVho needs i t?" It's time the C. N. E. officiais took another look at the name and the pur- pose of thîs annual affair. As for th i syear, I f eel1 the C. N.E. didn't make it.
