Aspecial ministry of rec- r e a tion at the proVincial level would provide multi-purpose farnily recrea- t i on a 1 units within the community in cooperation with municipal parks and recreation.officials. Contained in these structures woul d be a communi ty centre, artificial ice facilities and a swimming pool. Adults and their chiu- dr'en could walk to these units. The rink could be used for hockey and f ig- ure skating in the winter, and lacrosse or tennis in the summer. The commun!ity centre coul d be used by everybody in the community whether they be senior citizens or teenagers. The curbs on industrial pollution which the New Democrat Party is com- mited to, vvould gradually alleviate the pollution of Lake Ontario at the Whitby beach areas to m a k e t h em habi table once again. The tremendous need for low-ren- tal housing would be solved by bring- ing the Ontario Housing Corporation to Whitby. The se are the immediate changes t h a t I woul d work toward in the next four years to alleviate s ome of the burden that rests on the shoulders of the average working man in the town. There i s only one overriding committment that i am able to make and very simpiy it is apromise of sincerity hardwork and dedication on behalf of thepeople in Whitby and the Riding of Ontario South. Duringmy term as member for this R i d i ng , the multitude of individual problems has shown that the role of a Provincial Representative goes far be- y on d the development of Government Pol i cies. Many of the matters, in which my assistance has been requested, in- v o ve the very fundamental concerns of in d ividuals and their lives - per- s o n a l wel fare, 1legal matters, youth problems and many others. This is not a visible service to my riding, but it isanessential one that I have and will continue to pursue with ail my energy on behalf of everyone in this Riding - regardless of political affiliation. The mushrooming growth in and sur- rounding Metropol i tan Toronto has ai- ready demonstrated i ts impact upon our area. But as that growth continues it will be my objective to ensure that we strive not just for a larger population but more importantly for an increase inemploymentopportunities-to lessen our need for daily commuting and our dependence upon a relatively few em- ployers inthearea. Iwill strive to en- sure that whenever possible, Provin- cial projects are constructed in our Riding for two purposes: f i r s t ly, to assist our own economy, and secondly, to bring the components of government as close as possible to our people. The Province of Ontario has enjoyed one of the highest levels of prosperity of a n y P r o v ince in Canada. In four years time, i want to say that in spite of the p r o b lems we are bound to en- c oun ter, that position has been bet- t e r e dfor all1residents. Iwilldo my utmost to make it so by serving the people of Ontario South on a full-time basi s. FANTASYLAND PARK Rent our 'Room on the Hill' for your Fall or Christmas party.
