The weather was avercas t, cool, and despite the possibility af rain it remained dry. The spectator turnaut was quite sur- prising for this time of the year, es- peciallyconsidering the fact that it can getpretty chilly up in the stands. Nev- ertheless, a lot of people were either sitting in the stands or walking in the pit area. The afternoon started off with a driv- er's meeting followed by the two quai- ifying races for the formula cars. Un- faort un a tely none of our local racers were able ta complete preparation of their cars in time ta compete. About fifty mi les 1later, we drove into a ditch, destroying aur non- driven wheel odometer drive.., scratch one Speed-pilot. Seeing as how this i n s t r u ment wasnIt working anyway, 1 took the bulb out of it and held it in my h and w ith aIlivewire to get some 1lig h t.
