If at a Il you plan to go to Germany this summer or fall and your first stop i s Frankfurt, do not get discouraged, asyoumight, with the high costs of ac- comodation in that city. You should in- stead try the very reasonable hotels in the Taunus Mountains. These are ele- v a t i o n s up to 2800 feet (Feldberg) on t h e N o r t h e rn Horizon of Frankfurt, heavily wooded and for history fans as w e I I as nature explorers, a source of i n t e resting discoveries, let alone the m a g n i f icent moderate climate and the clearness and purity of the air, remind- ing youof the Laurentians of Muskoka. Yet, Frankfurt is only a stone's throw away and sightseeingcan be done easily by bus, streetcar or train, returning in theevening to the ozon-rich and cool ni g hts among whispering pine, spruce and beech. Three of the friendly Taunus Villages are: GI ashuetten, which was founded in 1685, andgot its name by craftsmen of glass- b i o wing< Here and in many other such v i ll1 a g e s the history enthusiast finds traces of Roman architecture, such as the "Limes", a fortified wall which was used and enhancement of territory the same as the "Hadrian-Wal I" in England. This village claims to be catering to old peopl e in search of absolute peace and quiet, to be found in abundance dur- ing walks on the well looked after for- es t paths and in cultivated hotels and guesthouses where one coul d get a room wi th shower included for about Deutsch- mark 30. Those tourists who prefer to be in- dependent from a heavy itinerary most certainly would enjoy a vacation making their own discoveries, staying at pleas- and places at reasonable prices.
