WHITBY FREE PRESS, Thursday, July 6, 1972, Who is the Next Peter Perry? The Whi tbyChamber of Commerce is looking for nominees for the Peter Per- ry Award for Whitby's outstanding citi- zen of 1971. The award, 1ast presented to W il-_ liam Nurse in 1970, was originated 17 y ear s ago by the late Judge J. E. Pritchard and named af ter Whitby's founder, Peter Perry. Nominations are open from July 3 to 21, and nomination forms are available a t the municipal building, post office, ail downtown banks, the [Bank of Com- merce in Brooklin, the Ashburn gener- al store, the Whitby Mal1 restaurant, and Courtice Pharmacy. Any citizen of the Town of Whitby m ay nominate one or more candidates by completing a form and mailing it in a s e a i e d envelope marked "outstanding citizen" to the Secretary of the Cham- ber of Commerce. Candidates must be residents or t a x p a y e rs of the town of Whitby. No candidatewill be disqualified by reason of his office, employment, business or a s s o ciation wi th the chamber of com- merce. The award may be made post- humously. Mer e numbers of nominations for any candidate wili not influence the decision of the 12 judges selected from various occupations. The panel of judges will make the a w ar d August 3 to the candidate who during the past calendar year has ren- dered outstanding service to the town overandabove his normal duties of of- five, employment or business. Out standing services rendered prior to the last calendar year may be con- sidered but there must have been some specific service rendered during 1971. The award will be presented at the o f f i c i a i opening of the County Town C a r n i val at Heydenshore Pavilion on August 3. The opening will consist of a ban- quet, presentations and speeches and dancing to live music. There will also be bar privileges. A limited number of tickets are av- ailableat $5 per person from the Cha- m b e r o f Commerce office, 117 Green Street, or from members of the Cham- ber's board of directors. The last day for obtaining tickets is July 28. Admission to the carnivai opening wi il be by ticket only, and ail tickets must be purchased in advance.
