GA&RDEM UNS Rose Winners for 1973 by ,%,IciMorris If you are an avid rose fancier, you have probably been wondering about the 1973 AIi-America Award winners. Hybrid teas have captured thelIimel ight in the selections for next year. The winners are 'Electron', 'Gypsyl and 'Medallion'. These three rosesvwill be available at most of our local nurseries this fall1 or next spring. The y are flot available this spring. Elec tron 'Electron' is of an Irish origin. The long, pointed buds open to high-cen- tered, wel l-formed blooms of exhibit- ion qual ity and are produced on stems of medium length. When cut, the fra- grant, open blossoms are long-lasting and hold their colour well. I can vouch for this rose! For two weeks 1havehad this rose in bloom at the greenhouse atHl-larwood Secondary School in Ajax. You vvill really find the fragrance as delightful as an old fashioned rose. 'Electron' is abushy growver and is coveredwvith dark green foliage clown to the ground. I t bears many stems of bright pink blooms throughout the blooming season.
