Well I'm sure these thoughits mnust have gone throughi the mmid of-Whitby's Ray Gray last Mon- day at Mosport Park after the afore - mientioned events occured. .The occasion was the running of the For- mula Ford qualifying heats for the seventh and final event in the 1972 Bulova Championship. Ray's car is a Lotus 6 1M powered by a Lotus- Holbay engine capable of sending the machine down the straighits at speeds in excess of 130 miph . fl.. ot bad for a littie 1600 c.c. (98 cubic inch) four cylinder miotor. Perhaps 1 should mienion that the whole car weighis less than 900 pounds, and when il gets into a wrestling match with a solid steel guard rail.. . well 1 shudder thinking about it. An avid motorsport enthusiast, Ray Gray has cornpeted at Mosport since its opening thir- teen years ago. He drove for Teamn Triumph (British Leyland Motors) for four years, and lias also driven Formula 'B' 'and Group 7 (2 litre modified). The past season hias been very dis- heartening (and costly) because of unfortunate incidents; such as the Tiger Town races where Ray accidentally touched wheels with another car, sending him airborne. He landed upside down, after rolling three tirnes, and needless ta say, it left him wîth a total wreck to bring homne to Whitby. Thanks ta Ray's able mechanie Phil Allan, the car was completely rebuit in timie for the next session preceeding the Grand Prix two wceks Slater. Guess what happened on THAT outing?
