Oc- casionally designers like George Barris (Hollywood), Carl Casper (Michigan), and Mike Haas (California) surprise us by coming up with some original ideas on new machines. George Barris, a big name on the Show Car Circuit," started with a '73 Dodge van; and reworked the body quite uniquel>' (and extensivel>') to wind up with what he calîs "The Love Machine". Barris, also known as "the King of Kustornizers", modified the body of the van establishing a basic beltt une from which two vertical arches extend from the basic horizontal silhouette. Both arches contain four internai roll bars, and act as air spoilers at the top, for better high speed control. The front end uses Cibie rectangular headlights which are unfortunatel>' now being banned be- cause they are considered "too bright". Excepting the rear louvered window, ail others use Polaroid charcoal tinted glass. For easy entrance, the right side master door glass lifts, and the body section at that point iowers to reveal the plus interior. Probabi>' the ultimate in rolling luxury, this vehicle contains a six-foot Boudoir Sofa which revolves and is sur- rounded b>' a stereo system, a colour TV, a tape recorder, speakers galore, and even a light organ.
