NORTH AMERICAN GIRLS CHAMPIONS COMING TOÂAJAX HOME WEEK-END lhe reigning Canadian and U.S.A. Girls Drum Corps. Champions have signed to compete in two functions on Ajax Home Week-End, lune 15, 16, and 17. The 110 member Corps. will march in the Saturday parade and will also compete for $2,500. in the Drum Corps. com- petition Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. The Brantford St. John's Girls Drum Corps. was started in 1953, and this year is celebrating it's 2Oth anniversary. St. John's came to National prominence in 1962, when for the first time, they won the Province of Ontario Championship, and followed that by winning the Canadian National Championship. They have won the Provincial Championship every year since, and the Canadian Champ- ionship nine times in the past eleven years. St. John's came to International status in 1972, when they flot only won the U.S. Open Championship at Marion Ohio, and the International, Ail Girls Championship at Sarnia, Ontario. In 1973, St. John's will field both the largest and young- est corps. in its twenty year history. With 36 in the colour guard, 20 on drums, and 44 on bugles, the total marching membership will be 110. A completely new musical production wiIl be presented this year. St. John's will offer a salute to several countries who have provided a unique contribution to the musical :iistory of the world. The off the line "Man from La Man= cha offers recognition to the Spanish nation, while "Can Can" of course, is a musical tribute to France. Into concert and concert itself "Hava Nagila" is a salute to one of the newest nations in the world, with the oldest history, the nation of Israel. Out of concert, and the entire last haîf of the show is a musical greeting to the British Isies, presenting the traditional music whîch instant- ly brings to mmnd the several countries that go to make up thîs group of islands. British, Scottish and Irish airs are readily identified, and bring to a close a program which is unique in its presentation. Tickets for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Invitational Drum Corps. competition in Ajax on lune 16 are available from ail Kinsmen and the following: Ajax Flower Shop, Pickering Flower Shop, Focus 2000, Chris Catering, Mer- cury Furniture, H.F.C., Firestone, J.Y.
