Whitby Theatre Company presents "On Monday Next", a reputable English comedy in the grand tradition of the theatre. A repertory com- pany is holding the second rehearsal for next week's pl- ay, and'things are proceed- ing in customary confusion. The star is in a hassle with her husband, who also plays the part of her husband in the play-within-a-play, and t- his by-play adds plentifully to the confusion of the dia- logue. The author, of course, has to show up to offer his invaluable talent to the pro- ducer. The poor producer is a pretty worried guy at this point. He has just been fished out of the orchestra pit, into which he fell after a sally with a left-handed carpenter and an amateur ele- ctrician who switched off the lights. An imperturbable old trouper does lier best to pac- ify ail hands. But the pros- pect is not hopeful. There are further maladroit inven- tions by the carpenter; the stage manager departs in a temper, and the remainder settle down noisily to resume the rehearsal. Rod Lee will play the part of the director; Greg Lang (Jackson); Carol Hat- ton (Mary); Jean Henderson (the author); Tracy Sager (A- vis); Sandy Elizuk (Daphne); Mary Ellen Soltys (Sandra); Howard Joynt (Norwood); J- o Haviland (Maud); Julian Snedker (Jerry); Harry Chap- man (George). The set has been designed and constructed by Tony Ha- rrison. Malcolm SchelI is the producer-stage manager and Blair Haviland is the director. Bar facilities on the nights of the 14th - 16th and advan- ce tickets are available at Middletons Book store, 113 Dundas Street West in Whit- by and Anne's Fabric Shop 113 Byron Street South, also in Whitby. Tickets will also be available on the nig- lits of the performance. which she learned to do at Dorset Flying Club in Wiltshire England last year.
