PAGE 14, THURSDAY, JULY 12, 1973, WHITBY FREE PRESS Trailer RaIIy About 135 trailers from throughout the continental United States are expected to arrive in Whitby July 27th for the first international rally of the Streamline Royal Rovers Trailer Club. The 11 - day rally will be the longest and largest ever held in Whitby at Heydenshore Park. Fourteen out of 20 national chapters from California, Florida, Washington State, Ohio, Michigan, Texas and_ Iowa will be represented with each chapter being in charge of one day's events. The largest delegation will contain about 35 to 40 trailers from Florida. July 27th the trailer club members will attend an official reception by the town of Whitby at Heydenshore Pavilion. July 28th the Florida chapter will conduct a roast barbeque, and July 29th the Up With People Singers from Belleville will entertain and the visitors will attend an open - air church service in the park by St. Mark's United Church. Golf and crafts, and a Toronto bus tour are scheduled for July 30th, followed by a women's shopping day and Pickering nuclear plant tour July 31st. August Ist there will be workshops for the club members. August 2nd they will vote on acceptance of the International Bylaws and elect the national board of directors of the club. August 4th some of the trailers will take part in the County Town Carnival parade and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. the trailer camp will be open to the public. At 3:30 p.m. the trailer decorating contest will be judged. Sunday, August 5th there will be another open air service at Heydenshore Park by the Whitby Ministerial Association, and a closing banquet for the trailer rally with entertainment by Whitby's County Town Singers. Wagon Master Dr. Ken Hobbs and Assistant Wagon Master Forbes McEwan, both of Whitby, have been working since last November on preperations for the rally. One of the special attractions for the members of the club will be a spit barbeque of 250 to 300 pounds of Beef July 28th. The first trailer rally was held in 1968 with about 20 trailers, following a stop - over in Whitby the year before by some trailer club members on their way to Expo '67. All rallies to date in Whitby have been Canadian Chapter rallies, with the 1973 event being the first of an international stature. The Streamline Royal Rovers Trailer Club consists of mostly retired persons with an average age of 60. Jehovah's witnesses from the, Whitby congregation will be attending their Divine Vic- tory International Assembly to be held at Woodbine Race Track, Toronto, July 25th to 29th. They will be joined by an estimated 30,000 del- egates from other Ontario communities, from North E- eastern United States and from countries such as Chile, Bra- zil, Nigeria, South Africa, West Germany, Britain, Jam- ica, Barbado, India, Japan and many, many more. This 'Divine Victory' In- ternational Assembly of Jeh- ovah's witnesses will be one of 30 such conventions held on this continent during the summer, from Halifax to P- anama. Mr. Lawrence Gray, Con- vention Manager, noted, "One of the main reasons for peo- ple so eagerly planning to attend these assemblies is to hear down - to - earth dis- cussions of the Bible and its answers to the many probl- ems facing mankind." He added, "even more vital, the program will be designed to encourage each one to with- stand the rapidly increasing pressures during this short remaining period before hu- man rulership, saddled as it is with world - wide unrest and the spectre of famine, is removed and replaced by a system of things ruled by mankind's Creator." The public is invited to attend al the sessions thr- oughout the five - day con- vention. A special invitation is being extended to ail to hear the main discourse, "D- ivine Victory - Its Meaning for Distressed Humanity." A very important feature of these assemblies will be their instructive content. F- our Bible dramas will high- light the application of Bible principles for our day. Preperations are well un- derway for the massive task of providing accommodations and food for the delegates.
