OPEN-AIR MALL An open - air pedestrian mail, the first ever set up in Whtby wîlI be created for 14 hours August 4th for the County Town Carnlival as Brock Street between Dundas and Coiborne Streets is closed to traffic. A giant sidewaik sale wili be lheld by the mercharits of the entire downtown ini this area from 9 a.m. to 9 p.nm. . The downtown action conmittee is making plans for decorations to be hung from the buildings facing the cîosed off portion of the street, with the street to be provided with park benches, umbrelias and tables. The County Town Carnival Parade wil pass tlîrough the mail shortly after it starts at 10 a.m. 0on its way to Centennial Park. The merchants are planning to decorate their store windows with artifacts of 1904 ini commemoration of the f irst Whitby homecoming that year. Among these displays will be early pliotograplis of Whitby from the archives of the town's Historical Society. From 2 to 4 p.m. the town hall and the iawns surrounding it will be open to the public for a Homecoming reception. Refreshments will be served on the lawn, while inside the council chanîbers there wîll be a display of Whitby, past, present and future. The display wili include documents and photograplis from the archives of the Whitby Historical Society depict- ing the growth of Whitby over the last 1 20 years. There will also be displays depicting present day development ini the town, and an artist's concept of Whitby in the year 2000. The town hall display will be openî to the public from August 1lst to 6th.
