WHITBY SEA CADETS GET- 2'MORE SAILBGATS FROM THE SHORES - I I OFFICIA At last Monday night's council meeting the OfficiaI Plan was brought forth for consideration by Whitby Co- uncil. Council went into committee - of - the - whole to discuss the numerous ob- jections that were presented at the public 'meetings and LL PLAN by correspondence, but be- cause of the numnber were unable to barely get start- ed before the meeting was disbanded at 11 :30 p.m. The Officiai Plan will be on the agenda for the next council meeting September 4th at 8 p.m. Fort y Foot Frontage Picture shows Mr. Alfred Lees, the Boats Officer witb the new Glen L 8'B1all Sailing Boats, which were built by_ the Corps under bis supervision and experience. Cadets are receiving instructions before launcbing and sailing. Whitby Sea Cadets, under the command of Captain J. Frendo - Cumbo. C.D., have been active during the sumimer înonths ini sailing and ini a îquniber of courses. Câdets attended summner training at the East and West Coasts and on board H.M.C.S. Haida. Also a -canoe trip was comnpleted at South River. This Corps bias very enthusiastic officers and cadets. The parents of these cadets are v'ery helpful to the Corps. At present the Corps is recruiting and need boys 13 to 19 years old. In a recent interview with the F- REE PRESS, Coun. Emm suggested that a possible sol- ution to the frontage prob- lerm, which is being argued for by soute who hope four- ty feet lots wilI offer lower priced bornes to buyers, is îlot necessarily to reduce the size of the lots but to reduce the size of the houses. Ec a open ingsi local Ties' Statio Coun. Emm went on to say that larger lots, but with smaller homes- would allow older people to have their own homes. He added that young couples, or couples wbo have no cbildren, really don't need large homes. He also pointed out that there are quite a few people who spend their winters down south and only their sum- mers in the north, wbo also don't need or want large winter homes.
