Ontario Hydro officiais announced that the study area for the 500,000 volt huie which will link Lennox generat- ing station near Kingston with Oshawa tranisformer station has been extended. This was carried ouLt as a result of previous public meetings last July at wliich residents and property owners in Darlington, Clarke and East Whitby townships expressed strong sentiments for a more north- erly route to be examined at the western end of the proposed le. Therefore, an enviroumental assessment of the northern sector has been made by Ontario Hydro and Commonwealth Associates, Hydro's environmental consultant. This extended study area is now bordered ini the north by Ontario Hydro's existing Gatineau transmission lines passing from the Pontypool area, east through Concession 2 of Manvers township to the Cavan boundary and south to meet the original study boundary at the Hope-Clarke line. For the past several months, Ontario Flydro and its environmental consultant, Commonwealth Associa tes, have 'rý eV v 'e Yc6 i' conducted an extensive study to determine the location of a 500,000 volt transmissionlinhe route having a maximum width of 600 feet. This power hune project, con- necting Lennox GS with Oshawa TS, will represent a major portion of Ontario Ffydro's bulk power transmission network to serve the southern part of the province. The public meetings have presenited an opportunity for those interested to examine the proposais and to give tlîeir own suggestions. Public opinion will be recorded and will be considered by Commonwealth Associates in re- fining thec conceptual corridors across thie study area in order to determine the best location of an environment- ally sound route within each corridor. Ontario Hydro and Commonwealth Associates will recommend to the Solandt Commission, and also make available to the public, a preferred route based on study findings, which will reflect views of the public, the municipalities and the vani ous ministries of the Ontario governme ut. 1963 1 eus 1973 VOLKSWAGEN SALB AND URVIGE ~ Good selection of new and used cars I Bseine Rd., %~ miles east.o?
