DOC Loses Tournament On Friday, January 24, the Denis O'Connor midget- boys basketball team jour- neyed to London to compete in the two day Montcalm S.S. Invitational Tournament, which featured 16 teams from London, Stratford, Strathroy, St. Thomas, Chat- ham, Kitchener-Waterloo, Brantford, Oakville, and Barrie. Denis O'Connor faced London Beal, undefeated in league play, in its first en- counter. Beal took advant- age of defensive miscues by DO'C in the second quarter when they outscored the visitors by 17 points. This lead proved insurrmountable as Beal was victorious 72-45. For Denis O'Connor Rick Nieuwendyk led the scoring with 14.points, Pat O'Connor lad 11, and Kelly Matrell 8. Beal tIen bowed out of the tournament 4642 to *eventual champion Brant- ford St. John. In consolation action on Saturday, DO'C was matched up against London Banting, defending tournament cham- pions. The game was tied at ,1the half and remained very Iclose until midway through the fourth quarter when Banting jumped quickly into n 8 point lead. Forced to play catch up ball in the last few minutes, the Whitby team gambled and Banting was able to pad their lead by an additional 6 points final 44-30.
