Besides capturing the overaîl championship, the squad won first place in ail three categories with Diane Moore tops in figures, Lyn Murray tops 1 solos and Cheryl Coleman and Margaret Whyte tops in, duets. Other teams entered in the meet were from Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Ottawa, Leaside, Scarborough, Burlington, Mississauga and Peterborough. There were a total of 53 competitors in the figures categoty; 23 in solos; eight pairs in dluets; and six squads in teamn. Thie Legionaires put together a 1lO-hit attack, outhitting th e opposition, but they couldn't put their safeties together to prodlice runs and aIthde end of the regulation seven innings were lied 2-2. Later in the week the Legionaires journ- eyed to Port Hope and ran up a lopsided 23-1 score. Mike Welling was on the niound for Whitby and the young southipaw held the Port Hope club to a lone single while striking out seven. The Legionaires jumiped on Port Hlope pitching for 17 bits and put the gaine away early wîth a 10-O lead in the first -inining. This year's entry in the E.O.B.A. ban tam series got off 10 a late start in pre-season prepara- ions but appear to have the foundation for building a good club. Fred Petryshyn and Larry Chizen shared shared pitching duties in the opener. Petryshyn is a sec- ond-year player while Chizen was making his first appear- ance as a bantam and his late inning relief stint showed he is ready to make the jump without any problem. Although the game "opens Up" with the much larger diamonds, pitchers are most affected as they move 10 an older category and the pitch- ing distance lengthens. The Big Macs had nine hits in coming up with their victory without ever being extcnded. John Heaslip with a double and single, Mike Galiagher and Fred Petryshyn each with a pair of singles and Ford Definney, Mark Tutton and Greg Puchalski with singles were the Big Macs hitters. The Reds journeyed to, Orono and posted a 16-5 win in E.O.B.A. midget action. The Reds got off to a shaky starî mostly as a result of their own coinpîecency wvbich resulted in somne soppy play but settled down 10 go ahead and couîd have extended their winning margin. On Tuesday, again at Peel Park, the Legionaires will pl ay host to Oshawa beginning at 6:15. The Whitby Reds midg us will entertain Lindsay on Thursday, June 12, at E.A. Fairman beginning. at 6:15. On the Whitby Minor Basebail Association peewee front, Seaway Motors trounced Red Wing Orchiards 14-O and Lions edged Dodd and Souter 7.6.
