The Transporters were pushed to thc limit by Scaway Motors who forced Uic series to Uic full Uiree gamnes before bow- ing out in Uic Uiird game which went into extra innings before B and R wrappcd up the game and -the series wiUi a tie-breaking run to win Uic honours with a 10-9 win and 2nd it ail in the seicnth inn- ing. After carrying the series so fan it was a heant-breaker for Uic Seaway Motors squad when B and R scorcd Uic winning nun on four consecu-* tive walks. In Uic final gamne B and R could only manage Uiree meagre hits off Seaway pitching but Uicy got 16 free passes and in practically evcry situation a walk is as good as a hit. On Uic othen side of Uic coin thc B and R club got an outstand- ing pitching chone fnom Chanlie Meitner who gave up, only one wak in two games, none in the championship final. He was tagged for 13 kits by the hard hitting Sea- way squad but he scattered his hits and wasn't moving runnens along with free passes. Hittens for B and R in Uic titie winning contest were Doug Dean wiUi a pain of singles and John Utton. Seaway had an impressive attack with 13 safeties but they didn't get cnough runs to win it. Hitting for Scaway were Kevin Jimmo, Mike Brear, Steve Parrott, each wiUi a pair; and Brian Jimmo Mike Dakin, Mike Hanley, each with singles and their big hitter for Uic day, Colin Gillis who came through with four singles to lead Uic way.1 Seaway opened thc seres. wiUi a 12-4 victory wiUi Mike Brean Uic winning pitchen with relief help from Steve1 PNrott. For B and R it was Ron Mulligan woith two singles, and John Utton, Doug Dean, Charlie Meitner and Gary Goldrick who supplîed Uic offense. For the second year the format will sec the event staged in two sessions with Tee-Bad and Tyke play- crs attending thc first at 1 p.m. and Peewee, Bantam, Midget and Juvenile players at 3 p.m. Evcry boy attending wil receive a 1975 W.M.B.A. crest and a copy of the Montreal Expos basebali magazine. Championship clubs and their players will receive championship crests and trophies in honour of thcir titie victories. Municipal officials will be on hiand to extend grectings frorn Uic Town and to take part in the ceremnonies at both events. A traditionai highlîght of the Awards Day has been Uic draws for base- bails autographed by playens of sevenal of Uic major league clubs, colourful yearbooks and pictures made avalable by the major league tearns. To be eligible to win one of the many prizes, players must be in attendance. Both sessions wiJl conclude with rcfreshments, traditionai in basebaîl - soda pop and hot dogs. The Awards Day is one of two events held to con- clude the basebaîl scason in Whitby, Uic other bcing Uic W.M.B.A. Fail Bail to be hcld at Heydenshorc on October 4.
