The school is used for public meetings, by Guides, Brown- jes and Scouts, and for cera- mics and macrame classes. The school's principal, Dr. Dave Disney hopes eventually to expand the use of the school from the West Lynde community to include the entire south-west quadrant of the town. The school has a capacity for 630 pupils, but is starting out with 560 from Kinder-. garten to Grade seven. About 90 to 100 more pupils will arrive next year when Grade eight is added. Grades seven and eigh t are being phased out in two stages from Henry Street High School where they have been located for the last few years. AIl Grade sevens take mu- sic and the other classes are scheduled in on a more limited basis. A special *te4ch- er is in charge of the classes as there is also a special teacher for art. The school bias a number of self-contained classrooms and *an early childhood edu- cation wing with two class- rooms for Kindergarten and two for Grade One. The library is a large re- source room with three class- rooms that open onto it. In addition, there is a double gymnasium separated by sliding walls. The school property ex- tends from Michael Blvd. to Annes Street, and from the hiouses on Jermyn Street to an undeveloped lot owned by the Separate School Board. A parking lot provides spaces for 45 cars. Dr. Disney hopes that base- bal diamionds will be installed on the sciool property nçxt' spring, and the town of Whitby is expected to build a soccer pitch on rnunicipally- ownied land bordering on the schiool lands and Annes Street. The West Lynde school features miany modemn innova- tions such as coat racks along the walls of the main hall, and two "mud roorns" where coats are hung and boots are stored on racks in rainy weather. Brightly coloured graphic designs in .yelîow, orange and purple can be seen on the walls of tie stairways.
