THURSDAY in a Thursday evening home game, the Warriors defeated the Orillia Terriers 7-5. Terriers' John Winder opened the scoring at 2:05 of the first period, converting a pass from Bob Kane. However, the Warriors exploded for four goals in less than six minutes to take a commanding lead which they nevter relinquished. Ed Philpott, on assists by Mike Noonan and Bill Lastic, opened the barrage at 11:51. Mike Keenan put Whitby in front at 13:10, converting feeds from Gord McCosh and Greg Bodnar. Wayne Cheeseman upped the Warriors' margin when he was set up by Denis Menard and Pete Vipond at 14:27. EdTaylor closed Whitby's scoring outburst at 17:29-on helpers from Pete Vipond and Bob Edmunds. Nick Holmes tallied the Warriors' only goal of the second period after taking a pass from Bill Lastic at 8:17. Bob Kane's goal at 9:46 on a set up by Ron Bobette narrowed Whitby's margin to 5-2. Ron Bobette put the visitors back in the garne with a goal at 12:15. Bob Kane and Colin Wood picked up assists. Mike Keenan restored the Warriors' three-goal lead at 5:54 of the final period after taking passes from Nick Holmes and Bob Menard. Terriers' Bob Clayton, on feeds by Len Bray and Greg Higson, cut Whitby's margin to two at 9:00. Whitby goaltender Dave Boyarski was hit in the throat by a hard drive at 12:43 and was helped off the ice after regaining his breath. Mike Laing replaced him. Bob. Kane brought the visitors to within one goal when he scored at 16:40 after being set up by Colin Wood and Scott Mabley. The Terriers pressed for the equalizer and came extremely close on one -occasion. With just over a minute re aining, Mike Laing smothered the puck as it rolled toward the goalline. Bob Menard, on passes from Ed Philpott and Greg Bodnar, scored into the empty Orillia net at 19:48. FRIDAY On Friday in Orillia, it. was the Warriors who collapsed in the second period, allowing seven goals as the Terriers coasted to a 10-4 win. The Warriors host the Cambridge Hornets·tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. at Iroquois Park Arena.
