Last week a board of directors were elected, made up of a representative fromý each of the town's five *senior citizens' clubs, five senior citizens from the general !public, and, a chairmnan appointed by the recreation department. The chairman is Dick England, a resident of the Bowling Green Towers apart- ments behind the activity centre. Members 'of the board of directors are Mrs. Margaret McMinn, of the Whitby Senior Citizens Club; Henry Delange, of the Good * Companions Club; Mrs. Flora Lott, of the Whitby Lawn Bowling Club; Harry Lott, of Whitby Seniors Co-operating; and a delegate- to be appointed frorn the Bowling Green Senior Citizens Association. Prices Effective Until MARCH l3th. SUPER $avinas One of the last of the founders of the original Whitby Township Fire De- partment, George Herbert Vick, died Feb. 24 at the Dr. J. 0. Ruddy Hospital at the age of 74. Mr. Vick, who was a resident of Brooklin for more than 50 years, and lived at 59 Bagot St., served 42 years with the volunteer fire brigade in Whitby Township, and was chief o 'f the depart- ment for 26 years.. He was one of the founders of the fire brigade at Brooklin in 1924, and retired in October 1966. From 1940 to 1966, he was chief, in charge of a unit of 25 volunteers. Mr. Vick was also a mem- ber of the Brooldin Water Committee, founded in 1962. Among his contributions 10 the fire department were the building of the present fire hall in Brooklin in 1960 and the obtaining of a new fire truck for this hall. In 1974 the Whitby Pire Department honored Mr. Vick by creating the George Vick Award, which is presented annually to the outstanding fire fighter of the year in Hall One at Brooklin. Mr. Vick was born Sept. 8, 1901 at Orillia, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert -Vick. For 40 years he operated the George Vick Ltd. Insurance agency, retiring in June 1975. Mr. Vick is survived by his wife, the former Thomasine Willard; one daugliter, Mrs. Herb Wright June), Whitby; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral was held last Thursday at Armstrong Funeral Chapel in Oshawa, with intermenit in Mount Lawn Cemetery.
