For the first lime, Whitby is acting as hosi to the 23rd annual conference of the Organization of Srnall Urban Municipalities Section of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. The organization was founded in 1954 as the Town and Village Section of the OMA, one of the founders being Whitby's mayor ai Ihat time, Harry Jermiyn. Whitby's Town Clerk Bill Wallace, and Councillor Joy Thompson, one of the organizaîion's directors, have been working since Noveniber 1975 to , prepare for the conference. As of Thursday, 175 delegates had 'regisiered, but Mr. Wallace expecîs the final nuimber 10 reach 250, plus more than 10O0 spouses.
