Toronto's Joclyn Lovell, who represented Canada in the Olympics, and Oshawa's Ian D'Ornellas, who was to have riden for Guyana before that country pulled out of the games, rode for the First Portugeese Club and finished first and second respectively in the 51-mile Senior 'A' race. Peter Penman finished third. Lovell won the Dayton trophy. Pat Knight of Elliott Lake won-the 51-mile Senior 'B event, followed by Manuel Oliviera of First Portugeese andJimNolanofScarborough- Rob Abriel of the Durham Nomads picked up his third win of the year finishing first in the 24-mile. Win 2-1 in overtime Owasco Seniors defeat Pickering There was plenty of soccer action this week with Whitby teams taking part in each of the four tournaments being held as part of this year's County Town Carnival. The Whitby Rangers Mosquitoes, whose lineup is seriously depleted, bowed out of further.competition going down to a narrow 4-3 defeat at the hands of Chingua- cousy. David Craig scored all of Whitby's goals. With the win, Chinguacousy advanced to the final. Oshawa edged Wexford 2-1 to also advance to the final. In peewee action, Whitby Carretto Restaurant demol- ished Oshàwa 9-0. Whitby, leading 6-0 at half-time, coasted in the second half. Joe Polacka and Paul Connelly each scored three times for the winners while Greg Degannes, ,Warren Subject and Peter Beaudy added singles. Mark Westep- hoeffer picked uptheshutout. In the other peewee contest, Chinguacousy whip- ped Wexford 9-1. In bantani play, Chingua- cousy defeated Wexford 2-1 to advance to the finals. Oshawa Bantams also advanced to. the finals with a 4-2 win over Whitby's Ferrco Engineering who only played good soccer in the first five and last five minutes of the game. John Longmuir and Pete Saturno scored for Whitby. The Brooklin/Whitby Kinettes and Owasco Volks- wagen advanced to meet each other in the senior girls final with victories over East End Quality Meats and Pickering 'A' respectively. The Kinettes scored a 4-2 decision over East Epd Quality Meats. Liz Brown scored three times for the winners and Kathy Harris once. It took two 10-minute overtime periods before Owasco achieved their 2-1 win over Pickering 'A' with Liz Silius the hero of the piece, lobbing in a fine shot with five minutes left in the second overtime. Zoltan Bolya whipped Steve Thwaites in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 to capture the men's singles. tennis tourney Liz Tedford and Eva Langley combined to win the ladies' doubles, downing Bev Sharrock and Kay Jennings 6-3, 6-2. Zoltan Bolya and Frank Kreisz defeated Bill Langley and Jim Williamson 6-4, 6-2 to capture the men's doubles. The mixed doubles event was won by Bill and Eva Langley who defeated Frank and Mary Kreisz 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
