W FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 1917,PAE1 Council rejeets proposai for report Whtyregional cotuncilor Joy Thompson, backed by Cotin. Joe Drummii, jointly failed at last week's local couincil meeting to carty thirough with one of Thomp- son's election promises. Cotin. Thompson in her formai election campaign had sà id "local counicillors are sometimes flot made aware of issues under debate until thiey thernselves read it in the newspaper" and that, if elected, she would submit regular reports to local counicil. Cotin. Joe Drumm, although only sitting in his first active couincil meetingechoed Cotin. Thompson saying that counicil was ilot well inforrned gener- ally about regional matters. Cotin. Thompson' s miotion, seconded by Coiin. Drumnii, that" regional couincillors would 'take turns filing written repoîts every from rgo rwo inonths mnet with general opposition from the rest of Council with only Thompson and Drumim eventuall.y voting in favour of their own motion. Regional Councillor Gerry Ernm, who obviously had borne the brunt of Coun. Thompson's 'failure to coin- municate' campaign innuendoes said that informationi was already being'passcd along to local counéil in the normal course of events (by him and Mayor Gartshore who also sits on regional council) and that a two înonth delay waiting for, reports would cause problems. Coun. Thompson narrowly edged out John Goodwin in the recent three-way race for the two regional seats by -slightly over one hundred votes, and ran second to Coun. Gerry Emin vho held a strong margin in over her of over 670 votes.
