Anderson wrestlers COSSA champs' The Central Ontario Secondary Schools Associa- tion held their wrestling tournament at Cobourg on Thursday, Feb. 17. Numerous schools from this area had qualified wrestlers to this tournament from an earlier tournament at Vanier. The team trophy was won by the Anderson Raiders' wrestling team with 84 points. Dunbarton was second with 50 points, G.L. Roberts was third with 40 points, O'Neill was fourth with '38½ points Bayside was fifth with 33 and Trenton with 252 rounded ou the top 6 tearns. Asindividuals the Anderson wrestlers made an excellent showing according to the coaches, Mr. Gilman and Mr. Lotton. Glenn Nolan won 1st place at 98 lbs., Joe Madigin 4th place at 106 lbs., Rob Frendo-Cumbo lst place at 115 lbs., Gord Berry 1st place and Richard Allard 3rd place at 123 lbs., Brian Roberts 1st place at 148 lbs., Mark Watson Ist place at 157 lbs., Fred Prinzen lst place at 194 lbs., and Perry Adebar 2nd place at heavyweight. The wrestlers who placed I st are now going to the All Ontario Wrestling Tournament at St. Catherines on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25 and 26. Anderson will have 6 wrestlers who have qualified for this top tournament in Ontario. This is quite a feat for it is rare that so many wrestlers from one school would qualify to go to this prestigious tournament. These proud youngsters are members of the Whitby Figure Skating Club who won medals at the Pineridge Figure Skating Competition in Bowmanville recently. Free Press Photo Whitby figure skaters win medals A number of members of the Whitby Figure Skating Club won medals in the Pineridge Figure Skating Competition hosted by the Bowmanville Skating Club on Feb. 12. Rodney Reid was success- ful in three categories. He won a gold medal in Prelimi- nary Men's, a silver medal in Men's interpretive, and with his partner Colleen Creighton, won a gold medal in the Preliminary Dance Category. Other successful candidates were Linda Martin, who won a gold medal for Ladies' Interpretive; Leslie Allems, a bronze medal in ladies' Intrepretive; Jackie Stell, a silver medal in Pre Novice Ladies; Paula Gaudet, a bronze medal in Pre Juvenile Ladies; and Scott O'Neill, a bronze medal in the Prelimi- nary Men's category. All winners are residents of Whitby and Brooklin. The Whitby Figure Skating Club entered skaters in the Halton-Peel Dance Competi- tion, Saturday, and will be represented at the Scarboro Skate competitions April 29 to May 1. The hopes of the Whitby Curling Club are with these members of the Senior Ladies' who competed this week at Ottawa in the Ontario Provincial Senior Ladies' Champion- ships. Free Press Photo Ladies compete at Ottawa For the first time in its *19-year history, the Whitby Curling Club is sending a team .to the Ontario Provincial Championships. From Sunday to Tuesday, the Whitby Senior Ladies' Curling Team, was in Ottawa competing in the Senior Ladies' Provincial Champion- ships. Members of the team are: Evelyn Bonetta, skip; Eileen Betts, vice-skip; Betty Hollin- ler, second; and Muriel rosser, lead. The-team won the District 15 championship in Lakefield on Jan. 10, and went on to win the Southem Ontario B Division championship . at Brantford on Jan. 26, which qualified the Whitby Senior Ladies to proceed to the pro- vincial championships. The winner in Ottawa goes on to the Dominion Championships at Peace River, Alberta in March.
