WHITM 62 Whitby Sèouts go, t'o jamboree Sixty-two boys and leaders. of the Whitby District Scouts and Venturers have registered to attend the Canadian Jam- boree 1977 at Cabot Park, Princ e Edward Island, which will be held July 2 Lu il. it is expected that I12,000- 15,000 Scouts (age il Lu 14), Venturers (14 to 17) and adult leaders wiIi attend. It wili be the largest group of Canadfian youth ever to gather toge ther in Canada. Every province, the yukon and the Northwest Territories xiii be represented. invitations have been sent to each of the 115 Scout Associations in the World Scout Conference tu send a representative patrol Lu attend and Canada has issued a special invitation tu Boy Scouts of Amnerica (USA) to send 500 boys. They hope for 600-700 from other cointries to attend. The principle purpose ot. the Jamboree is tu bring boys togyether from ail parts of Canada to take part in a Scouting event of challenging camping skiiis. To provide the opportunity and setting for themn to get tu know their feilow Canadian youth: to exchange views and ideas; to make friends and tu further the aims and purposes of Boy Scouts of Canada. For the first time in a Canadian Jamboree every Scout and Venturer xiii have the opportunity Lu attend as part of a patrol (5 to 9 boys and an aduit Scouter) xvhich xiii be the Jamboree unit of organization, they xiii carry ail of their iight-weight camp- ing gear with them in pack- sacks; they wiii camp in small tents and cook their own meals using modern camping techniques which are in keep- ing with conversation and the protection of the environnment. There wiIl be an exciting program of events throughout the Jamboree period and 'the unit may choose those in which the members wish to participate; tours, hikes, canoeing, obstacle courses, crafts, orienteering; a day on the magnificent beach; fishing boat trips; team games; camp- fires, to name a few. încluded in the program is Jamboree Ceremony Day - Wednesday, July 6th. On that afternoon dhe whoie Jamboree wiil gather Lu take part in a ceremony of friend- Juvenite team ties series The CBC Juvenile hockey team is tied in its series with Kingston Township two games each, after four recent quarter final games. In game two of the best of five, March 6 at Kingston Township, Kingston defeated the CBCs 5-3. Whitby scorers were Garry Bruce, Rich Byford and John Jordan.
