On Feb. 23 the Manpower office opened its student employment centre in the basemnent of the old library building at 132 Dundas St. W.. Until May 2, the office will be open from 8:15 a.in. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays only. After that time it will be open Monday through Friday. Th e phone number is 668-5233. Miss Ross says there is a 10 per cent increase in students looking for work this sumimer, cornpared- to last year at this time. Job orders are already corning in at the rate of about two a week, mostly for part-time clerks and stock people in the retail- sales trade, but there are possible summier jobs being posted too she said. Until May, Miss Ross will be going throughout the Whitby.area îalking 10 indus- tries and service groups to gel employers interested 'in hiring students for the summer. Already she has built up a file of students who are looking for summer employ- ment. Two dozen students registered on March 12. Miss Ross predicts there will be an increase in casual employment because of the manv new houses in towr this year. She; encouîrages students to consider a series of casual jobs such as house or fence painting, grass cutting and o-ther odd jobs associated witk. the establish- pj ment of new -homnes in the area. Students should also see if they can turn their hobbies and interests into summer jobs such as raising and selling plants, repairing lawn mowe rs, or changing oil in cars, she says.
