['Corridor Capers Just as I predicted last week, Easter brings lots of eggs and bunnies as well as beautiful spring weather. The white fluffy stuff last week was.probably manna, certainly not snow in April. - The Whitby Chamber of Commerce had an interesting speaker, Jack Diamond at its monthly luncheon meeting. He spoke on ideas for rejuvenating the Down Town Core of Whitby. Since the introduction of shopping centres, the down town area has deteriated. Small wonder, when you compare parking and prices. However, Whitby downtown offers a fantastic quaint shopping district and the merchants should encourage shoppers to their core. Mr. Diamond's suggestions were practical and contained simple common sense. Off-street parking with back door entrances to the various shops was one suggestion. More medium and high density development in the proximity of the centre core, so shoppers could walk to the down town area. To me, this has always made sense. Locating higher density develop- ments in outlying areas, where families require two cars to be mobile, is defeating the concept of providing homes for average families. It is also stagnating the down town shopping district and forcing some merchants to v;acate their facilities. Whitby has the potential, it is up to the merchants and the town fathers to attract shoppers to the down town core. Gord Hanna, President of the Chamber and past resident of the Corridor, is to be congratulated for his leadershipwith the Chamber. it is my understanding that membership with the Chamber has doubled this year and this new and interesting activities are in store for the very near future. Best of luck. - A belated welcome home to the Majoros family, who spent two weeks in Orlando and vicinity.
