Ontario produces some of the- finest apples in tlie world. Most will agree that there is nothing like the sensation of biting into a crisp, juicy Mclntosh apple. As well as being delicious to eat, the apple is the ultimate convenience food. It cornes in its own package, and travels well in a lunch box or purse. It needs only to be washed before eating. Good nutrition is another feature of this convenience food. The fiber content of apples provides buik, which is essential for good digestion. Apples also contain smali amounts of minerais and vitamîns. Best of ail, one medium appie contains only 70 calories. Bags and baskets of bright, shiny, Ontario Mclntosh apples are available now. They are found in three and five pound bags, three pound tray packs and four quqrt baskets. With this variety in packaging, there's a perfect size package for everyone. An ideal place to keep ripe apples is the crisper of the refrigerator, which is in the temperature range of 32 degree F to 40 degree F (O degree C to 4 degree C). Unbaked Ontario Apple Pie 1- '/i cups applejuice 3/ cup sugar 7 cups peeled Ontario apple wedges 2 tablespoons cornstarch 1 tablespoon butter 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 1 ,9-inch ba ked pastry sheil in saucepan combine 1-1/ cups apple juice and sugar. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to moderate. Add V of the appie wedges. Simmer gently until apples are tender but not soft, about 3-4 minutes. syrup, set aside Repeat withi apples. Combine with remnaining appie juice. Addt saucepan. Bring stirring. Boil1 to drain. remaining cornstarch 1/4 cup of to syrup in to a boil, 1 minute. Remove from heat. Add butter, and vanilia. Cool 10 minutes. Arrange apple wedges in a decorative pattern on bottom of pie crust. Drizzle sauce over top. Repeat until ail apples and sauce are used. Chili.
