LA CONTESSA BEAUTY LOUNGE 119 Greçn St.-6,96 If financing can be worked out, construction may begin next year on a central public works depot for Durham Region on a site on Garrard Road in Whitby. The region's works com- mittee wants to build the depot for about $1 .6 million, on the site, already owned by the region, as it is almost in the geographical centre of Durham. It wvouid be used to house and maintain rond ser- vicing, garbage disposai and water and sewer equiprnent. According to Newcastle Mayor Garnet Rickard, chair- man of the regionai xvorks commîttee, the new depot is badly needed because of severe overcrowding at a rented depot on Raleigh Ave. in Oshawa. The region currently pays about $90,000 in rent for this building and parking islimited. This wveek the regionai council miay decide to seli a vacant one-to-1 2-acre parcel of land on Thornton Road in Oshawva or ask for a delay to obtain a better price. Itl had hoped 10 get $600,000 fromn the sale to hielp finance the new works depot, but the latest offer was only $480,000.
