As part of its major eni- phiasis program, the Kiwanis Club is operating a youth ex- tension programi at the Whitby Senior Publie School every Monday night froni 7 p.rn. to 9 p.ni. frorn October to May. The prograrn, in its third year, is open to boys and girls aged 10 to 16. Presently about 30 boys and six girls are participatiflg, and Kiwanis Club President Bob Brodie says there is room for 50 youngsters in the programi. Anyone who is interestcd in taking part in the prograrn may show up at the school to register. A memnbe rship card is provided and attendance is taken to see how many are taking part. The progranm was an- notinced in Whitby schools this year, and has been quite successful, says Mr. -Brodie. About five or six miernbers of the Kiwanis Club turn out each night to organize and supervise the garnes. The youth extension pro- gram originated fromn the Eastview Boys and Girls Club in Oshawa, which operates four youth groups in Oshawa, one in Whitby, one in Ajax and one in Pickering. Each group has a different sponsori with the Kiwariis Club being the Whitby sponsor. The club has a budget of $1,600 to operate a years program. Kiwanian Bob Reid is in charge of the Whitby prograru and has a number of special events planned, in- cluding two swirnining nights at Eastview Boys atid Girls Club during the winter and basebaîl in the spring. Other outside activities are being plan ned. The children taking part in the prograin corne froni al parts of Whitby and Brooklin and attendance is quite regular for rnost.
