The idea will be to teach these youngsteres how to swim but to coach them in stroke improvement, fitness and stamnina. Swirnmers with this experience usually find Red Cross badges a snap. They will not be on a heavy diet of training for competi- tive swimming'; rather, ernphasis wiîI be on technique and on the enjoy- ment of swimming. Many swimmers and parents seem to be inhibited by the' term competitive swixnming, imagining that one must already by a Beck or Graham Smith in order to quaîify for the team. This is not the case. Swimming accommodates ail levels of skilîs. What is important is TH£ the readiness to par 1tiPate, to improve one's skills, to enjoy the association of others of similar interests, as well as the fitàess and sense of well-being. that cornes wîth this activity. Builders» try ing for Minto Cup On Monday in British Columbia, the Whitby CBC Builders Junior- Lacrosse Club began their second quest in two years for the Minto Cup, and the Canadian Junior lacrosse champion- ship. Last year the Builders hosted Burnaby Cablevision, of Burnaby, B.C. at Iroquois Park,, but îost the battle for . the Minto Cup to Burnaby. >This year the same ' twô" teams are battling for the same titîe,- this time in Western Canada. On Aug. 22 the Builders -won the Eastern champion- ship, by defeating the Elora Mohawks at Iroquois Park Arena. Team off icials seem to feel the Builders are a more matured, defensive-minded team this year and will be a stronger contender for the Minto Cup than last year. Going into the Minto Cup final, the Builders have an impressive 21-game undefeated streak. The team won 23 and lost seven games in the regular season, but Coahc Jim Kinkson says they were hard-won victories.
