As a resident and businessman in the Centre Wa rd,,'I recognize the needs of my constituents. In mny profession, I represent people from all walks of life: as a councillor, I. shall continue to do so. GORDON HANNA' My decision te run for councillor in the centre ward flows from my intense inter- est te see improvernent to the downtown area ef Whitby. I have been involved in the Action Cemmittee and as President of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce these past two years have worked teo firstly attract members from their area and secondly promote the character of downtown as pet the cover of our community guide recently distributed. However, limiîtations sheuld be placed upon expan- sionl of the existing business area'to, the detriment'of the surrounding residential dis- tricts. MIKE BURGESS Our ward is unique in that different problems concern different residents. Concerns range from downtown rejuv- enation, Port development and, neighbourhood char. acter retention, to trans- portation, and last but certainly flot least, proper handling of our tax dollars. I feil strongly about the need to increase the tax base through properly planned development. This will reduce the tax burden and e!. iinate the need to reduce ser - es. A good example is the non-profit heusing pro- ject thL I headed' up the formatioi and' construction of (withou- personal remun- eration).
