The Riding takes in Ajax, Pickering, Whitby and Uxbridge. Mr. Cafik arrived at the meeting held in the Picker- ing High School after attend- ing a Cabinet meeting that was held in Toronto and'a multiculturalism dinner where there was 35 people in attendance. He spoke to thie people from the multicultural ethnie groups of Toronto "who are 'interested in tlie human approach of multicul- turalism." The work is being done by the Region of Durliam who lias taken over tlie adminis- tration and operation of the water and sanitary services of the area. The Region deemed tlie water tower as being uneces- sary as it is no longer isequired for their water- -works system. As a resuit 0f. this decision .tlie Water Tower is being demolislied. The land on which the water tower stands was ,municipally owned by the Town of Whitby before the Region of Durliam took it over. As a resuit the Staff lias recommnended to the Opera- tions Committee that a deed be prepared of the water tower land conveying tlie land to the Whitby Kinsmen Club, with tlie Region of Durham being a third party to the conveyance of the land. The transaction is to be completed only, when the removal of the water tower is completed.* It was pointed out to the Committee, both levels of government, the municipal and the, regional, have agreed that the land should be donated to tlie Kinsmen Club. The Operations Com- mittee approved of the recommendation and recom- mends that the Council give its approval during its next regular meeting.
