According to Chief Admiin- istrative Officer Bob Richardson, a lease will have to be entered into with the owners of Durham Towers and a bylaw passed by regional council before the objections can be heard before the 0MB. He pointed out that .until the lease is entered into and the byiaw passed, there is nothîng to appeal., Oshawa Councillor Ed Kolodzie and an Oshawa citizen, Gord Burnett have filed the objections. Mr. Richardson said when the issue cornes before the 0MB, the lease will be judged on whether the rentai fee is realistic 'and whether the region can. afford it.- Councillor Kolodzie has objected that no professionai engineering study has been undertaken to utiize current unused space at the regional headquarters in Whitby. He contends there is enough space if it was utilized in the right way. Council recently voted to move the finance depart- ment, fr om Whitby to Oshawa, with. lack of, space and crowded conditions being the reason for the move, as well as concern about the safety of equip- ment and records stored in two portables behind the regional building.
