Last year, the mili rate was 38.6 and this year it is 43.5 mills. There is an increased mifl rate of 5.4 mils for the commercial and industrial taxpayers. Last year, the miii rate was 42.9 milis, this year it is increased to 48.3 milis. The Treasurer's report states, to the average Separate School supporter "for residential purposes, this increase represents a $24,500 boost in taxes for element ary schooi purposes. This increase in taxes wil be experienced by Separate School supporters in spite of the assessrnent base for separate school purposes being increased by approximately 9 percent in 1979. "lIt is required that the Town of Whitby pass tax rates which will raise the amounts of mnoney required by the various bodies in each taxation year," the Treasurer's report states. The Treasurer's Department outlined- the suggested tax rates for the Town of Whitby in 1979 for both the Public School and Separate School Supporters. The suggested rates were acceptedý by, the Operations Conimittee with the recom- mendation that Council approve the proposed rates.
