PAGE 12, WEDNESDAY, MAY 23, 1979, WHITBY FREE PRESS Carnival plans proceeding A few changes are in store for the 1979 County Town Carnival, but most events will remain the same as in past years. The Whitby Fire Depart- ment reports there will be no pyjama parade through Brooklin this year, because of problems in controlling the parade. The Canadian Scottish Club is taking over the parade from the Kinsmen Club of Whitby, and has already booked eight bands. The parade route will be changed this year, starting at Denis O'Connor High School and proceeding along Dundas to the Four Corners, Brock Street to Burns, Burns to Henry and along Henry Street to Iroquois Park. The route has received approval of the Town of Whitby and Durham Regional Police. The Canadian Scottish Club is considering a pipe band competition after the parade at Iroquois Park. The Whitby Chamber of Commerce trade fair will be only two days this year instead of. the usual three. The dates are July 30 and 31 feom 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. One night there will be a concert by the Whitby Brass Band and the other night there will be a pet and mutt show combined by the Oshawa Obedience Associa- tion. The YMCA is conside- ring having its bike decora- ting contest during the trade fair. The Peter Perry Award presentation and official opening of the carnival will be Aug. 1 at Heydenshore Pavilion. The Talent Showcase will be held at Iroquois Park Arena July 29. The carnival committee has granted up to $1,000 for this show in order to keep it free to the public. There had been some discussion on charging admission to the talent show. Other events are as scheduled last year. Further information will be forth- coming, closer to the carnival dates. Chains SPRING PLANTING Workers were busy planting trees last week as the reconstruction of Centennial Park nears completion. The official opening of the park, which has been revamped by the Whitby Rotary Club, is scheduled for June 23 at 1:30 p.m. At this time the Whitby Brass Band will provide a concert in the new amphetheatre. Free Press Photo Six more parks in book-ahead system Six provincial parks have been added to Ontario's mail-in campsite reservation system, bringing to 16 the number of parks where sites can be booked ahead of time. Provincial parks added to the reservation list this year are Darlington, Killarney, Oastler Lake, Pinery, Quetico and Sibley. Reservations are also accepted in Balsam Lake, Bon Echo, Earl Rowe, Kakabeka Falls, Kettle Lakes, Mara, Outlet Beach, Rushing River, . Serpent Mounds and Sibbald Point.
