" "I'm glad you passed by because I've phoned many times complaining about the mosquitoes in the creek," said Joe Fleischer, Ash Street. "People throw oul cans and garbage in the creek and theré has been no improve- ment." Mayor Gartshore replied that "we, the town, tried to do the work last year, on the creek dlean up, but the resi- dents wouldn't co-operate." As he looked at the gar- bage filled creek Councillor Emm said the Town Works Department had tried to do a dlean up job but they didn't receive any help from the residents in the area 50 now "the creek is restored to being a storm sewer." As they walked along Perry Street which is selie- duled for "proposed recon- struction", next year Coun- cillor Joe Drumm looked toward Brock Street and noticed the back of the Royal Hotel. The owner has been asking for improvement work to be done on the laneway at the back of the Hotel. He is planning on paving the park- ing lot and having a patio located at the back of the Hotel. Councillor Drumm said, "it seems that ail that will be needed to get a liquor license is three chairs, a table and an unbrella." Back at the Firehaîl meet- ing place Councillor Emm said, during the conclusion of the meeting, that the Corn- mittee has toured and covered one area of the Town *Ž!SSUMMER 3~4~SQUASH Monthly Memberships $3500iclde $350() us of these facilities -showers-saunos-sun rooms- -whirlpools,-4 squash'cou rts- -2 more under construction- LLBO Licensed in the walking tour and that is the downtown area. Mayor Jim Gartshore comnmented that, "it is one of the silly things we have been fighting from day one. Before we the Council for this Town can go ahead and do anything for the people we have to get approval from the Regional Council. IL is silly to have to go to them to obtain approval to ereet a couple of signs at an inter- section."1 A voice* was heard to mutter, "why not have the Courts do something about the problem?" Mayor Gartshore passed the question on to the Public Works Director, Dick Kuwa- hara, who replied that the road construction work is due to start the first week in June. At the present time there is no intention for detours as the work is to be done on a one side basis. (That is, one side of the street will be under const- ruction and the work com- pleted before construction work begins on the opposite side of the street). In this manner there will be no need for detours and the people living on Walnut Street will have access to their property. COLLISIOUSTn Driisg vain damasgmi car te MAACO and we'iI do Ihe rosi.
