Iroquois hockey team disbands for one year for lack of support, The Whitby Iroquois Senior A hockey club will suspend operations for a year, its board of directors annbunced last week. Team ; ecretary Bob Attersley cited lack of fan interest as the main reason for the suspension of oper- ations. "We needed the gate and just didn't receive it," he said. "The directors have 'lost a substantial amount of money in trying to bring senior hockey back to whitby." Mr. Attersley said the directors would take another look at the situation regar- ding the team in the spring of 1980. The Senior A team lasted for five seasons. It started in 1974 as the Whitby McDon- alds under the sponsorship of McDonald Restaurants. When McDonalds dropped its sponsorship, the team was managed by a group of private businessmen under the name of the Whitby Warriors, and later the Whitby Iroquois. The, Iroquois finished fourth in the six-team league this season and was elimin- ated in four consecutive play off games by the'first-place Thunder Bay Twins.
