It is joined by the Electra Park Avenue coupe and sedan and a new Electra Estate Wagon. Buick Electra for 1980 has received an all-new ap- pearance inside and out, but maintains the Buick look with a bold upright grille and sloping fenders. The spotlight on this year's Electra falls under the hood - where the standard powerplant is the new 4.1 litre (252 CID) 4-barrel V6 with optional offerings of a 5.7 litre diesel V8 and a 5.7 litre (350 CID) 4-barrel gasoline V8. Like other Electra models, the 1980 Electra Estate Wagon features the familiar Electra front-end appearance and a high level of trim. Extra care has been given to assure this model parallels the Electra Limited by of- fering the same radio availability, wheel covers, standard air conditioning, and the two-way-power seat. Standard equipment on the Park Avenue sedan for this year includes split seats, with dual centre armrests, combined with a new door panel design, brushed side moulding, color-keyed wheel covers, color-keyed paint on the inside of the froni grille, and coach lamps in- corporated into, the centre pillar on both the coupe and sedan models. Also standard on the Park Avenue is the halo-design vinyl top with a strip of body color between the top and the windows. The right side instrument panel of this model features a Buick exclusive for 1980 - an electroluminescent panel to light the Park Avenue in- signia. The 1980 Park Avenue features another Buick ex- clusive - Touch Climate Control. This fully electronic air conditioning system features pressure sensitive mode and temperature settings with light emitting diodes to illuminate the positions selected. Small electric motor-driven ac- tuators move the mode valves and the temperature valve to release and direct the properly heated or cooled air. And for listening en- joyment, there is the ex- clusive Concert Sound System for this year's Park Avenue sedan. With six speakers - a four by six inch co-axial speaker- in each of four doors and two four by six inch speakers in the rear shelf - all passengers are virtually surrounded by sound. Regardless of where the passenger is located within the automobile, the full stereo effect is throughout. And for those listeners who like their music loud, a power booster rated at 32 watts rms is available. This unique sound system will be available only in Buick's top-of-the-line Park Avenue sedan in 1980. 1980 BUICK ELECTRA LIMITED COUPE LeSabre- new technology 1980 BUICK LE SABRE SEDAN Buick's LeSabre models enter 1980 with a -new look and new technology. All LeSabre models now exhibit a crisp new notchback roofline combined with the wide wraparound tailiamps which again incoýporate amber turn signals. This year's models also utilize weight reduction features for a savings of approxirnately 40 to 60 kg (88 to 132lbs.). The base LeSabre has added more convenience features as standard equipment for 1980. An upgraded interior trim present this year includes a notchback seat with centre armrest. a new sew pattern, and matching door panel. The LeSabre Sport Coupe continues to have the turbo- charged V6 engine as standard equipment for 1980. The front-end appearance of this model will again be emphasized with blacked-out mouldings, grille and headlamp bezels to be matched with a bold new rear design which includes a blacked-out panel with Sport Coupe identification. Additionally, the Sport Coupe interior contains a temperature gauge and volt meter as standard equipment for 1980, along with bucket seats and operating console. LeSabre Limited was first introduced in 1979 and for 1980 adds a new cloth and elegant door panel treatment to accompany the luxurious seat design. Rounding out the 1980 LeSabre offering is the LeSabre Estate Wagon which replaces the base Estate Wagon of 1979. The stan- dard powerplant for this wagon is the 4.9 litre V8 engine with the optional 5.7 litre diesel V8 engine offereds for the first time in 1980. Full-size Pontiacs change style 1980 PONTIAC PARISIENNE BROUGHAM 4-DOOR SEDAN The Pontiac Laurentian, Catalina, and Parisienne feature all-new front end sheet metal, giving them thei- first major styling change since their debut in 1977 as completely redesigned mo- dels. The full-size Pontiacs will offer improved fuel economy through weight reduction, improved aerodynamics, revised engine usage and engineering improvements. . In addition to a lower profile, more aerodynamic front end than 1979, the 1980 Pontiacs feature new roofs, sail panels and door and rear quarter panels. The new mo- dels will be approximately 45 kilograms (100 lbs.) lighter than their 1979 counterparts. The 1980 Pontiac exterior dimensions are essentially the same as in 1979, but the car has a longer look from an extended front overhang and shortened rear overhang. Aerodynamically, hood lines have been lowered, rear deck lids raised, trailing edges modified and air dams and baffles added. The two-door coupe mo- dels feature a more formal roof line and the four-door sedanschave a restyled upper windowxarea to give 'them a fresh, nei appearance. Interior- roominess for some models has increased over 1979. In the 1980 coupe models, for instance, there is more rear leg room and knee clearance. Trunk compartment ca- pacity is increased to 21 cubic feet, one cubie foot more than 1979, as result >of the use of a compact spare tire, and design changes in deck lid, taillamp housings and braces. For the first time in many years, the 1980 Laurentian, Catalina, and Parisienne have similar front end styling. Laurentian and Catalina, like Parisienne, will feature a bold, vertical grille centrally located above and below the bumper. The 1980 Pontiacs also feature a flush bumper design with plastic inner fender skirts. The front suspension has newly designed ball joints to help reduce friction and improve the ride. The front stabilizer bar has new bushings for improved dur- ability and front and rear shock absorbers incorporate new single lip seals and pliacell bags that help reduce friction and improve control. Other engineering im- provements include revised steering linkage and re- designed wheel covers with openings for improved brake and bearing cooling and new metric tire sizes with in- creased tire pressure to help improve fuel 'economy. The tires use new rubber com- pounds and construction techniques to reduce rolling resistance. A number of new options are available in these cars for 1980. They include ETR (electronically tuned receiver) signal-seeking AM/FM stereo -radio with digital readout. Extended range stereo speaker systems, re- designed custom wheel covers and power outside mirrors are also new. The 1980 Laurentian and Catalina coupes and sedans have increased corrosion protection with the use of plastisol on the lower body side panels for stone chip resistance. There is also expanded usage of special metals on the 1980 full-size Pontiacs such as zincrometal outer deck lid and galvanized rear quarter panel. Acoustics are improved with new windshield reveal moulding insulators that cut wind noise. In addition, rear seat road noise control has been improved by design revisions permitting less noise in- trusion in the rear shelf and rear quarter. There is also an additional acoustics package designed for use with diesel- equipped Pontiacs which ·helps reduce engine noise. Pngine availability for the 1980 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX LJ 1980 Laurentian, Catalina and Parisienne models is as follows: A new 3.8 litre (229 CID) 2-barrel V6 is standard for coupes and sedans with 4.4 litre (267 CID) 2-barrel and 5.0 litre (305 CID) 4-barrel V8 engines available as options. Safari wagons use the 4.4 litre 2-barrel V8 as standard with 5.0 litre 4-barrel and 5.7 litre (350 CID) 4-barrel V8 engines available as options. A 5.7 litre Diesel V8 is also available for Safari wagons and Parisienne sedans and coupes equipped with the Brougham option. The 1980 diesel-equipped Parisienne Brougham coupes and sedans and Safari wagons will use hydro-boost power brakes instead of the conventional vacuum assist power brakes. The hydro boost system is hydraulic and operatesin conjunction with the power steering system. Pontiac Grand Prix The 1980 Grand Prix will again be offered in three models: base Grand Prix, luxury LJ, and sporty SJ. Grand Prix adds to its distinctive styling in 1980 with a front end appearance featuring a new grille theme. Taillamps feature new housings, lenses and chrome bezels. The letters "GP" are sonic welded to the centre of each lens to add a touch of elegance to the car. Automatic transmission, power brakes and power steering are standard for 1980, with manual trans- missions discontinued. The LJ and SJ models have new, tapered wheel opening mouldings and a revised double two-tone paint option to accommodate the styling change.
