In view of the fact that this was our last officiai meeting of the year, Carolyn requested that we sing "Oh Canada", to which Rose Heron accompanied on the piano. Chrissey MeKinney then thanked the Society for the Gingko tree which was plan- ted in Grass Park in honour of ber marriage to Dr. John MeKinney.. This was followed by Ken Brown's inimitable "Fun with Flora". Mrs. Stevens then in- troduced the speaker for the eveing in the perspn of Mrs. Anne Wilson, of the Civic Garden Club of Toronto. Mrs. Wilson was one of the founding members of the Milne House Garden Club, part of the present C.G.C. and by her own admission, bas béen doing flower arrangements siÉce she was very, very-young. This speaker is indowed Whitby students get scholarships from'Durham Three Whitby students have received scholarships for academic achievement from the Durham College of Applied Arts and Technology., The awards were made on Noveniber 2 by college president. Dr. Gordon Willey. A total of 41 scholarships were awarded with their value amounting to over $8,000. Tberesa Sacchett received $200 from General Motors of Canada for her work in tbe year one program in légal office administration. Stan Borun also received $200 from the Andrews Foundation for his achievements in year one electronie techniques. Suzanne Clark of Brooklin received $100 from the University Women's Club for special achievement.' Miss Clark's award was not only given for academic achievement but for demon- strating leadership ability as well. with a wry and deligbtful sense of humour and seems to 'je conducting her own priv~ate war against in- fli.tion. It was a'real pleasure to 'âear someone who actually knew how to save us money and her topic. "Decorating the Home for Christmas", showed just how inventive and ingenious one peM~n can be.
