The andèerson Staff and s tudents put together a very well-organized commencement. First, the grade twelve and thirteen graduates were presented with their diplomas. Later, Paula Gibbens, who was the valedictorian, gave a most interesting and bumnorous speech. This was follo wed by the presentation of the awards. After this most memorable evening, a party was held at the Genosha Hotel. Frienda were reumited and final good-byés were given to the sehool of Anderson. Here at Anderson, we have the honour of hosting two ex- change students frorn Quebec and Germany. Christine Chenard is the grade eleven french student from Rosemire, Quebec. She is staying with Michelle Doliment. Andrea Kavlich is the grade twelve German exchange student frorn Mulheim, Germany. Andrea is staying with Christine Martenelli. The exchange students are staying in Whitby until December. Then Michelle Dolixnent and Christine Mar- tenelli, will leave for their temporary homes in April for three rnonths. The programn is designed to make it easier to learn another language and lifestyle. New faces have become familiar, clubs.have become active and with the ap- proach of mid-termi reports, everyone has settled down to work. The last 0f ,the proceeds from our major fund- raising event, the DO'C-A-THON, are stili trickling in., A total amount of close to $30,000 was pledged to help keep the school's doors open. Wedensday, October 24 saw a special com- miemoration of the International Year of the Child. Organized by a group of interested students and, teachers, the day consisted of displays 0f artwork and handicrafts of the various nationalities present in the school. The highllght of the day was a fashion show cisplaying the national costumes of many countries. With the initiation of the grade fine students over, the Student Council is planning a Halloween dance on November 2. They are encouraging students to corne in costumes by offering weird and wonderful prizes. On the sports front, the volleyball season has already corne to a close for the senior and junior boys. Due to the fact that they played against double A rated tearns, and are themselves a single A tearn, the senior boys didn't do very well. The junior boys, almost all rookies; put forth a good effort and with sorne experience under their beit, hope, to do better next year. The senior girls basketball tearn at this tirne, is in the middle of its season and is the top in its division. The junior girls basketball teamn, again cornposed rnostly of rookies, is putting forth a valiant effort. Their season is only haîf finished. Well, that's it for now. . .back to the grindstone.
