J .NLARY 11,I I SI , 1 II Coming vents PLAY-A-THON On January 27, the Henry Street High School Band will hold a play-a-thon to raise money for a exchange trip to Montreal, Quebec. On April 8 through 12, members of the Lashine High School Band and choir wiIl make a visit to Henry Street with the Whitby students going to Quebec April 29 through May 3. MUSIC FESTIVAL Members of the Henry Street High School brass en- semble will be competing in the Kiwanis Music Festival in Scarborough throughout the month of February. The senior group will compote on February 13 and 14, the intermediate group on February 7 and the brass ensemble itself on Februrary 13 and 14, the in- termediate group on February 7 and the brass ensemble itself on February 17. FRENCH EMMERSION An information evening on the Durham Board of Education's French emmer- sion program will be held at the Henry Street High School, in the lecture room, on February 3 at 7:30 p.m. The guest speaker for the evening will be the board's French consultant, Casey Daleman. Also present will be teachers and parents in- vovled in the program. The event, sponsored by the West Lynde Parent Sehool Association, is designed to help parents f ind out about the program and help the board to determine whether or not a French immersion programn should be started in Whitby. MORNING COFFEE The next morning coffee session the Ajax-Pickering Christian Women's Club will be held on January 29 at 9:30 a.m. in the Grenada Restaurant Banquet Room in the Sheridan Malil, Pickering. The guest speaker will be Sharon Beerworth and Mary Alexander will be the soloist. AIl ladies are welcome to attend and child care is available. ANN UAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Whitby Historical Society will be held on January 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Fairview Lodge Home for the Aged. A pot luck supper will be served. The guest speaker for the evening will be Alan Barnes, former curator of the Henry and Robinson Houses in Oshawa. His topic will be domestic ighting since 1790.
