Vic Vickers, producer for Megamedia Corporation, is the veteran of close to 219 shows over the series eight seasons. "It's not a talent show and yet in some ways it is," said Vickers. "We introduce new talent from differenct com- munities." New Faces originated in- the Ottawa Valley in 1973 where it was aired for four years on CJOH-TV. While there, the show built up a steady following until it was one of Ottawa's highest rated, locally produced shows. For the past five years, New Faces has made it's home on CHCH-TV channel 11, in Hamilton. "We're producing a show which I feel is truely Can- adain," said Vickers. "More shows should be produced in this vien." The former employees of the Whitby Firestone Canda plant that shut down last July will have to wait at least a year for their separation or severance pay according to union official. An arbitration board hearing has been scheduled for June to deal with the claim of the United Rubber Workers (URW), Local 494 and 164 workers between the ages of 45 and 55 are entitled to separation pay. The hearing will also hear claims that about 20 mem- bers of the office staff are entitled to separation pay. Bill Love, president of Local 494, siad that the union believes that the 164 produc- tiôn workers, who will not draw a position until they are 65, should receive separation pay.½ He also said that the of- ficial employees should receive separation pay in- stead of a vested pension. "There's some language in their contract that we feel the company didn't live up to," Love said. The union leader said that many of the Firestone em. ployees in the 45-55 age bracket found other work since the closing but have been laid off again. Under the agreement, workers under 45 years old were entitled to severance pay while those over 55 received reduced pension benefits. However, the group between 45 and 55 received no benefits. However, management of- ficials of Firestone have claimed that provincial legislation prevents the company from paying early pension benefits.
