GIIEENAWAY Free Press Staff Eleven wins, four ties and eight losses after the begin- ning of the season the Whit- by Blades hockey team have earned their way into the finals this year yet, accor- ding to Blades coach Ruth Petrie. it is only one of the teams on-going concerns. The Blades ended up in second place for the year's play, behind Mississauga Trophy and in front of Mississauga Reps. and the North York Flyers. In the first game of the round robin championship finals the Whitby girls soun- dly defeated Mfississauga Trophy 5-1. Marg Fraser and Gail Ravary played outstanding hockey picking up four poin- ts and three points for the winners. Fraser scored two goals. the first assisted by Julie Randail and Joan Mayer, the second unassisted and posted assists on two of the three goals scored by Ravary. Randaîl and Lois Pitre added assists on the other Ravary markers. The lone trophy scorer was Karen Menton, assisted by Mary Andrews. The Blades recently made it to the finals of the Wallaceburg Lipstick tour- nament defeating the Don- sview Ladies, 2-1, and the Point Edward Supremes. 3- 2, before losing out to the London Dilts, 4-1. The Whitby girls wîll be travelling to London, On- tario to compete in the Provincial championships March 21-22 and plan to play in a tournament hosted at Laval University in Quebec. Playoffs continue tomorrow night when the Blades travel to North York to meet the Flyers. The following Sunday (March 1) they will host the Mississauga Reps. in the morning before travelling to Mississauga to meet the Trophy World team for the third and fourth games of the fiînals. Interrupting their playoff schedule, the girls will travel to Kingston this Saturday to play an exhibition game against the Kinston Frontenacs, a juvenile "A" team. During the regular season the Blades scored 84 goals, letting in 54 and shutting out opponents on four separate occasions.
