Ruddy usage on the imèrease During the last quarter of their fiscal year, the Dr. J.O. Ruddy General Hospital ex- perienced a 16 per cent in- crease in utilization over the same period the year before. According to hospital ad- ministrator John Kunetsky, the facility provided 14,865 days of patient care to the end of December. This represents an increase of 2,018 care days over the same period during the 1979- 1980 year. (The hospital's fiscal year runs from April to March.) "The percentage oc- cupancy rose from 70.9 per cent to 82.2 per cent," Kunetsky said. "This oc- cupancy was maintained in spite of the fact that the months of July, August and December are traditionally periods of relatively low oc- cupancy." "Part of the reason for the high occupancy is that part of the patient load consisted of long-term care patients awaiting accommodation in other facilities demon- strating the need for ad- ditional long-term accom- modation in D)urham Region," he added.
