MAYOR'S TASK FORCE The next meeting of the Mayor's Task Force on the Disabled will be held tomorrow, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the council cham- bers of the Municipal Building, 575 Rossland Road East. JUNIOR FIRE DEPARTMENT . Throughout this week, members of the Whitby Fire Department will be can- vassing all public schools in Whitby for registration for the department's ninth an- nual junior fire department program. The department will be accepting 160 applications for this year's program which will be held in two sessions from June 22 to July 3 and from July 6 to July 16. CABARET The theatre arts students of Henry Street High School will be presenting a cabaret in room 140 of the school tomorrow, May 7. There will be two schows There will be two shows presented by the grade 12 students at 7:30 and 9 p.m. and will feature sketches and music. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for students. SCIENCE FAIR The Durham Region Roman Catholic Separate School Board will be holding its regional science fair on May 9 at the Paul Dwyer High School, 700 Stevenson Road North, Oshawa. SPRING MELODY On May 14 and 15, begin- ning at 8 p.m. the Dennis O'Connor High School will present their "Spring Melody," a festival of music featuring folk, pop, spiritual and rock selec- tions. Tickets, available at the door, are $2 per person. Proceeds will go to finance the school's music program. MUSEUM OPENING The Whitby Historical Society extends an invitation to all area residents to at- tend the annual opening of the Whitby Museum, "Lyn- de House," at the corner of Dundas Street West and D'Hillier Street on Saturday, May9at2p.m. ARTS AND CRAFTS FESTIVAL The Town of Whitby is hosting its first annual festival of arts and crafts show and sale on May 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Iroquois 'Park Arena at the corner of Victoria & Henry Streets in Whitby. Over 85 Craftsmen from across Eastern Ontario will be exhibiting and some demonstrating in batik, pot- tery, ceramics, stained glass, leatherwork and much more. Refreshments are available. Free Parking. Admission fees are: adults $1; seniors 50¢ and children under 13 free. GOOD AS NEW SALE Durham Region Lung Association will hold a Good- as-New Sale from 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, in the Radio Park Clubhouse, Grenfell Street (one block east of the Oshawa Centre). Featured sale items in- clude spring plants, a quan- tity of new dressmaking material, good used clothing, books, toys, household items (including two bathroom cabinets), china and small electrical appliances. Everything in good condition, and offered at bargain prices. A bake sale is also featured, including baking by Mary Lisko, the Happy Cooker. Funds raised will help finance the Lung Association's Summer Camp for Asthmatic Children at Camp Samac. BIG SISTER WEEK Big Sisters of Oshawa will be holding a Big Sister Awareness Week during May 11 to 16. Big Sisters is a volunteer program, mat- ching more mature females with young girls who are having growing up problems.
